Det, MI
So there you have it. I'm back in WL. I had a fantastic weekend in Detroit. and yeah I didn't get knifed, stabbed, mugged or anything of that sort. I stayed about less than a km from 8 Mile (yup, that Eminem movie) but the place I was at was simply beautiful and incredible. My fren told me that sure Det has its problems and needs some cleaning up but it's still a place that ppl call home and where ppl live.
I'm glad I went to see it for myself:) and it's true you should avoid certain places of the area but that doesn't mean you have to forgo a visit to this place.
Ultimately it wasn't the place that mattered so much but it was the ppl I met there. Met Grace whom I haven't seen for at least a good 10 yrs since high school and she hasn't changed one bit. still as warm and caring as ever:) met some of her frens too. hung out with the bridesmaids (woohoo!) haha... They were an excellent bunch of Canadians and was really cool to just be among them. It was as if I kinda knew them for quite some time already.
Wat was really nice was that there was a another photog for the wedding too. It was really cool meeting up with Joe (who uses a Nikon, hmmm...). The lenses we used were pretty much the same but the availability of his wireless flash trigger really made a lot of difference when it came to getting creative shots. Nice... besides that, our vision for the same scene were totally different. He takes a lot of open spaces and incorporates quite a number of post-editing work in his shots to give them a HDR effect as well as making it look rather polished.
I realise that after comparing my work with his, I go more for the natural feel. Really like to play with natural light and prefer my shots to be tighter, more personal and up close (to the extent that I went too near the couple when they were exchanging vows at the altar:P). I think Jenny Sun has really influenced my shooting style quite a lot. but who can't be influenced by her genius work?!
I also came to realise the importance of having another photog around. there were times I missed some of the key important points of the wedding and Joe was there to cover for me and vice versa. was nice to give each other a break after a while.
my hats are off to those wedding photogs out there. I was running around and taking pics for 2 days and I was totally bummed out by the end of it. Not to mention that I now have to edit them pics!
For the record, this was the wedding where I shot the MOST frames. about 500 on the day before and about 1000+ on the wedding day itself. 1500+!!! walau weh... the most I did was last time at Steph's wedding which was about 700+. I totally outdid myself this time. Joe shot around 800+ too. which is excellent to meet another trigger happy photog as myself:)
So to Grace and Seif, Congrats on your lovely wedding and allowing me to capture it for you:)
And to the Canadians - Julia, Angela, Treesher and Joe. It was nice meeting you guys and totally appreciated the little tour of downtown Detroit:) you guys rock my socks:)
